The American Heart Association paid a recent visit to the Reach Out offices pulling huge red cases on wheels behind them. For a second there it looked like they were on their way to an emergency! In those red cases, however, where more than 40 "dummies" that AHA uses to teach compression-only CPR. Soon we were all pumping away on our dummies and realizing it's quite a workout to complete 100 chest compressions without taking a break! As the sweat began to bead on our brows, the AHA team showed us some inspiring videos of kids who have saved lives using this hands-only technique which really inspired us to work hard. We can't wait to take this program to our students!
Did you know? Recent California legislation requires school districts to teach hands-only CPR beginning with the 2018-19 school year. IHPC wants to make this transition easier for our local school districts and will be able to offer this training for teachers and students, who will receive a certificate of completion for the 50-minute course. For more information, please contact your IHPC program manager, Marina Mejia, Michael Sacoto, or Rehman Attar.
